In our Tortuguero adventure package you will get to know the "Little Amazon" of Costa Rica in three days. You can start the package either from San Jose or Guapiles.
Let yourself be enchanted by winding canals, long beach walks and dense rainforest. What rustles in the bushes? Who roars from the trees? Monkeys, sloths and wild cats await you!
The Northern Caribbean is calling to you- can you hear it? Those who are staying in San Jose can start this morning with the pickup at the hotel. However, since pick-up is not possible at all accommodations, please discuss the meeting point with us beforehand. We will drive through the impressive Braulio Carillo National Park with its tropical cliffs to Guapiles. Also here this module can start for you at the restaurant of the lodge.
In the bus of the lodge you will continue to the pier, where you will change into covered boats. Depending on the port, the trip takes between one and two hours. At noon you will arrive at the lodge with other travelers, receive a short introduction and move into your room and enjoy your meal.
The first included tour is in the afternoon. With the local guide you will walk through the botanical garden of the lodge. Afterwards you can take a short walk on the beach, visit the frog garden or refresh yourself at the pool and simply enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
Breakfast starts early as usual in Costa Rica, but you don't have to be at the buffet at 7am. For the early risers, there is an optional early morning tour at 6 a.m. to observe how the rainforest awakens.
At 8:30am you will then be expected at the boat dock, as the included boat tour through Tortuguero National Park starts. The monkeys play and roar, the caimans wait patiently at the edge of the canals for their breakfast and unique birds pose for a photo. The guide will not only show you the different animal inhabitants, but also explain the local characteristics of the climate and vegetation. Back at the lodge you can enjoy lunch between 12 and 14 o'clock before going on an excursion to the village. There are no cars or automobiles here, but boats and bicycles. You have the chance to buy a small souvenir and visit the museum for only about 2 US$ to increase your knowledge about the sea turtles. Often you can walk back from the village to the lodge on the beach. If you want, you can also collect garbage washed up by the sea and make your own contribution to nature conservation. Dinner is served between 7 and 9 pm.
Between July and September, the chances are extremely good to observe turtles laying their eggs during an optional night tour on the beach. Are you there during this time? Then don't miss the spectacle. It is important to wear dark clothes and to be quiet in order not to confuse the animals.
Note: The national park entrance fee for Tortuguero National Park (approx. 15 US$ + VAT) has to be paid directly to the national park authority SINAC. Since 2022 this is only possible online, but also until the same day. On site at the lodge they will be happy to help with the purchase of the tickets should there be any questions or uncertainties.
Already the last morning of your Tortuguero adventure has arrived. The breakfast buffet is open again from 7 am. Afterwards you check out and board the boat of the lodge around 9am, which will take you back to the harbor. The lodge transfer will take you back to Guapiles for lunch. Your package ends either here or you continue to the capital San Jose.
