If you're looking for a fun and exciting way to explore the beautiful natural wonders of Costa Rica, Cahuita National Park and its snorkeling tour should definitely be on your list. Located on the Caribbean coast, this national park is home to a vast variety of wildlife with over 35 species of mammals, including monkeys, sloths, coatis and raccoons,140 species of birds and an impressive collection of reptiles. It also boasts the most important coral reef of Costa Rica with over 35 species of coral, 123 species of fish, sea turtles and many more.
What to expect on the tour?
The tour starts with the pick-up in your hotel (Cahuita or Puerto Viejo area). After arriving at the National Park, you will put on your snorkeling gear and wade into the crystal clear waters. Once in the water, you'll be amazed by the colorful coral reefs and the abundance of marine life. Keep an eye out for sea turtles, angelfish, barracudas, and much more. The guides will be there to point out the different species and provide interesting facts about the ecosystem. This tour is perfect for both experienced snorkelers and beginners. The complete snorkeling equipment (mask, fins and snorkel) will be provided for you.
After the snorkeling tour, you can relax on the beach and enjoy a refreshing drink and a snack of seasonal tropical fruits while taking in the stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.
Then we start the second part of the tour, which consists of a 4.5 mile hike, that runs from the park entrance to Punta Cahuita winding through dense rainforest and along picturesque beaches. The trail is rated as moderate and takes about 3-4 hours to complete. As you make your way through the forest, you'll encounter a variety of animals, including monkeys, sloths, raccoons, coatis and colorful birds. Our guide will explain us a lot about the local flora and fauna and find animals we wouldn't have been able to see without his trained eyes.
