Danaus Ecological Park serves as a tranquil oasis, offering respite from the bustling city life. As you step into this natural wonderland, a sense of serenity washes over you. The park spans over 7 acres, encompassing a range of ecosystems that showcase Costa Rica's remarkable biodiversity. From vibrant gardens over wetlands to dense rainforests, every corner of Danaus Ecological Park is teeming with life, waiting to be discovered.
On a 0.6 mile walk around a circular trail, our knowledgeable guide will provide you valuable insights into the park's ecology. Learn about the intricate relationships between different species and discover the hidden secrets of the rainforest. Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting some of the over 250 avian species identified in the park, including toucans, 25 species of hummingbirds and a colony of boat-billed herons. Additionally, Danaus Ecological Park shelters numerous mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, adding to the rich tapestry of Costa Rican wildlife.
One of the park's most captivating features is the butterfly garden with more than 40 species. Be amazed by the beautiful blue morpho and the monarch (Danaus plexippus), which the park is named after. We will also visit an orchid and medicinal plants garden and learn about the Maleku, an indigenous tribe from the northern region.
The park is not just a place of natural beauty but also a stronghold for conservation and sustainability efforts. Thanks to the efforts of a small group that cares for the preservation of our environment and the education of children and adults in the region, a regenerating secondary rainforest could be created from an agriculturally used area in just a few years. By visiting the park, you contribute to these important conservation endeavors, helping ensure the continued existence of the remarkable species that call Danaus Ecological Park home.
At the end of our tour we enjoy a delicious snack of fresh fruit before returning to our hotels.
