A rafting tour is the perfect combination of adventure and nature experience. After all, where else can you get as close to the elements of nature as on a rapid river trip? Generally, rivers are divided into classes from class I (easy) to class V (very difficult). The Rio Sarapiquí as well as the Rio Pacuare are among the most popular rivers for rafting in Costa Rica. While the Pacuare offers rapids from class III to IV depending on the season and rainfall, the Sarapiquí is divided into two zones. The lower area is perfect for beginners and families (class II-III) and the upper area offers action for the adrenaline junkies with class IV. But one thing is for sure: you will always get wet.
Before setting off, you will be equipped with a life jacket, helmet and paddle. Afterwards, your guide will not only explain to you the best position to take in the dinghy but will also practice with you the most important commands that you will need for successful paddling. Our inflatable boats are always accompanied by a rescue kayak. If someone should go overboard, help is immediately on hand to get the person out of the water.
You don’t necessarily have to be able to swim to participate in a rafting tour but you should feel comfortable in the element of water. Rafting is real teamwork and a lot of fun. Of course there will be plenty of time to marvel at nature along the way as Costa Rica’s rivers wind through wild jungle, hidden valleys and spectacular canyons. With the rubber dinghy you will get to particularly remote and untouched places and maybe you even discover toucans, monkeys or sloths in the trees on the way. After your rafting trip you can purchase photos of you on the rafts.
Most tours start in the morning depending on the river. On the Rio Sarapiquí, tours are possible in the afternoon.
Depending on the chosen tour, the duration is from about 1.5 to 3 hours. The tour on the Rio Pacuare is a full day tour.
Average physical fitness is sufficient.
Of course, there is a small risk of falling into the water. But for this you are equipped with a helmet and life jacket and the guides are trained to react quickly and professionally in such situations. How you should behave in case of a fall into the water will of course be explained to you in detail before the tour and it will also be practiced.
The tours are generally also suitable for children. Minimum age may vary, on the Rio Pacuare children must be at least 12 years old in the dry season, 14 years old in the rainy season (June-November).
A tour costs on average $60-90.
