Canopy tours in Costa Rica

Wild rides on steel cables through the jungle

Canopy tours (also called zipline tours) are among the most popular adventure tours in Costa Rica and are fun for the whole family. With the help of a pulley, you jet from platform to platform on a steel cable, often at great heights. Equipped with a helmet and climbing harness, you go to the starting point of the tour where your guide gives you a short briefing and explains what you should pay attention to and how to hold on and brake.

Standing on the first platform it seems like an endless steel cable that disappears somewhere in the green of the jungle. You might get clammy hands and your knees might even shake a bit. That’s quite normal because if it didn’t take any effort, it would be boring. Even if you forget the instructions from all the excitement, the guides are well trained so that you are automatically slowed down. After the first steel cable your fear most likely subsides and you will simply enjoy the whirring of the pulley, the speed, the wind in your face and the magnificent view of the rainforest below you. Experiencing Costa Rica’s nature from a bird’s eye view is an absolutely unforgettable adrenaline-filled experience that you will definitely talk about for a long time.

The best options for zipline tours are in Monteverde and La Fortuna.

Answers to common questions:

Depending on the provider, tours are offered both in the morning and in the afternoon.

This is different for all providers. Depending on the number of cables and the group size approximately between 1.5 and 2.5 hours.

An average physical fitness is required. Depending on the tour, you may have to walk a few meters uphill with all your equipment.

Canopy tours are very safe. All participants are equipped with complete equipment including helmet and harness. In addition, you are always double secured with two carabiners. We have tested all the canopy tours we offer ourselves and found them to be very safe.

Canopy is suitable for the whole family, even children can participate. With appropriate physical fitness there is no upper age limit. The minimum age or height may vary depending on the provider. Smaller children are often taken along as a “tandem” by a guide.
