Floating is the family friendly and cozy variant of the more action packed rafting. If you would like to discover the rainforest of Costa Rica on a tour with a rubber dinghy but the rapids of whitewater rafting are a bit too exciting for you or you are traveling with smaller children then floating is just the right thing.
With some operators you don’t even have to paddle yourself. Some boats are equipped so that your guide does the steering and paddling alone. Keep your camera ready because raccoons or herons could be hiding in the thicket along the shore or you might even spot a toucan, sloth or howler monkey in the branches of the trees. While you let your gaze glide through the evergreen rainforest landscape your guide will explain interesting details about the plant and animal inhabitants of the Costa Rican jungle. Floating tours focus on the slow and considerate discovery of nature.
Varies depending on the provider, but usually in the morning between 8:00 and 09:00am.
The tours last about 2- 3 hours.
Since floating is not a sporting activity on fairly calm waters, no special fitness is required. For some floating tours you must be able to swim.
Floating is generally harmless, because of course you will be equipped with a life jacket and will be accompanied by trained guides. For some floating tours you must be able to swim.
Even younger children can participate. The minimum age can vary depending on the provider. Usually participation is allowed for 4 years and up.
Tours can be booked starting at $60.
