Our Corcovado experience is for all those adventure seekers who can do without luxury and love the wild. You stay overnight in the middle of the national park.
This morning you will be expected around 10:30 in the small town of Sierpe. Optionally we can organize the transfer to the meeting point. With the motorboat we will go along the Sierpe River towards the estuary - on the right and on the left you will see the mangroves, sometimes already flying red macaws or climbing monkeys. Then it goes to the open sea and along the coast to Drake Bay.
You will arrive at the lodge at noon, check into your simple room with air conditioning and enjoy the delicious lunch. The afternoon is free for you to explore the village and walk along the beach. Drake Bay is located at the sea, but it is not a typical bathing destination, also because the current is often very strong. This is a place for nature lovers who want to immerse themselves in the biodiversity of the region.
Today you will go together with an English speaking guide (and possibly other travelers) to a great snorkeling tour at the famous Isla del Caño - one of the best snorkeling spots in Costa Rica. At about 7 am we start in the boat. The island can usually be seen from Drake Bay - dolphins often accompany the boat on the crossing and, depending on the season, whales as well. Two snorkel stops are made around the island and so you often see parrot fish and other exotic species but also turtles, rays or sometimes a small reef shark. Depending on current regulations, a short visit to the beach may be included (most of the island is closed for conservation reasons) before heading back to Drake Bay. You prefer to be on land than in the water? Then we'd love to plan a visit to the San Pedrillo ranger station for you today - here you'll explore the rainforest with a guide and other travelers before heading to the waterfall for a cool down. With a lot of luck, pumas can be spotted here.
At the latest at 2 pm you will be back at the lodge to spend the afternoon at your leisure.
The day begins shortly before 6 a.m. with breakfast, because the boat ride to La Sirena ranger station in Corcovado National Park takes over an hour. You take only the most necessary things in your backpack, such as a change of underwear, sun and rain protection, toothbrush and the like - the rest of your luggage you leave at the reception. From the boat you will see lonely coastal landscapes. The Corcovado National Park is famous for over 400 species of birds, rare plants, reptiles, insects and various mammals.
Arrived in La Sirena you leave the boat with other travelers in the shallow water - then it's time to put on shoes again. With the English speaking guide you will go on the trails "Espaveles" and "Sirena". You will return to the station at noon for a nourishing refreshment. After a short break, you will go to the Rio Claro trail, equipped with bathing suits, which leads to the river of the same name. Here you can swim for a while and refresh yourself before returning a little later via the Naranjos trail. At sunset you will go to the beach again, then back to the station, where you will have dinner and a shower.
You will spend the night at La Sirena Ranger Station in the middle of Corcovado National Park. There are several open dormitories with double bunk beds and mosquito nets, as well as modern shared bathrooms.
The Corcovado adventure is not for late risers! Today your day starts already around 5 am and together with the guide you will go to the mouth of the Sirena River for a dreamlike lonely sunrise. Here you can watch crocodiles, different water birds and fishes at the same time, while you listen to the sound of the sea. The morning detour is followed by breakfast at the station before heading to the El Pavo trail. Before the late morning heat, there is a lot going on in the jungle, as animals are also looking for their breakfast. In the region live among others Pumas, coatis, agoutis, wild boars, countless bird species and especially the Sirena ranger station is known for the frequent sighting of tapirs. - you are not without reason in one of the most biodiverse areas on earth. In the ranger station we have a short break before we go back to Drake Bay by boat at lunchtime. What an experience! What will be your personal highlight here?
A last breakfast in Drake Bay is waiting for you, then the boat starts shortly after 7 o'clock. At the latest at 9 o'clock you will be back in Sierpe, where your Corcovado adventure ends.
What happens next? Let us inspire you with our other modules! We are also happy to organize the optional transfer to your next stop.
