Tropical Rainforest

Today you will arrive at the rainforest lodge la and enjoy lunch. Of course we can optionally take care of your transfer to the lodge if you are not traveling in a rental car. A four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended, but not a requirement (it does make the last 2km or so more pleasant). Opened in 2014, the first trees were planted on the grounds of the lodge as early as 2004 to bring new life to the former cow pasture. In the afternoon you can explore the trails of the lodge on your own, relax in the pool or even your hammock in a dreamlike rainforest scenery. In the afternoon you can have a delicious coffee and around 7 pm you will have a tasty dinner in the restaurant "Canta Rana". Around 8 pm a small night walk follows, because around the restaurant you can hear the frogs singing. Surely, poison dart frogs, red-eyed tree frogs and various toads can be seen tonight!

You start the day at the restaurant with a hearty campesino breakfast. This typical breakfast includes rice with beans, egg, a delicious coffee, juice and often some tropical fruit. Strengthened, you prick up your ears and learn from one of the employees more about the project la Tigra and the reserve Bosque la Tigra, how it all began and what has already been achieved. The walk to the new reforestation area in the Reserva Bosque la Tigra takes about 30-45 minutes, passing also different nature trails. With your own local tree you contribute to the reforestation. Thanks to the certificate including coordinates you will be able to find your tree even in years to come. The rest of the day is free for optional activities, independent exploration of the lodge trails, or simply relaxation.

At la Tigra Lodge you will be awakened by the sounds of nature, such as different chirping birds. Before or after breakfast you can use the trails again. Around lunchtime you will continue to La Fortuna, about an hour away, at the Arenal Volcano. After check-in, you can relax in the four jacuzzis, book an optional night tour in the area, or stroll through the various stores and restaurants in the center.

Today you will experience a lot - we hope you slept well! Right after breakfast, you'll head out in an international group towards la Fortuna waterfall. You will receive your canopy equipment and after the first view of the Pino Blanco waterfall you will whiz past the La Fortuna waterfall on seven steel cables of different lengths, through the rainforest and over canyons - tractor ride to the starting point included. After this adventure you will get an introduction to the indigenous culture of the Maleku. A tribal member will greet you in traditional dress and tell you more about the culture, language and traditions. Before returning to the hotel, you will have a short excursion to see butterflies and frogs.
After the rest break at noon, there will be more activity and we will go to Arenal Volcano. At the foot of the dormant volcanic cone, we hike over cooled lava rocks in search of dazzling birds, roaring monkeys and relaxed sloths. After about two hours and a visit to the viewpoint, we'll head to Paradise Hot Springs for the "day's finale." Dinner is also included! Here you can relax in peace before going back to the hotel in the late evening. Such an eventful day!

This day is at your disposal, so you can explore the Venado Caves with other explorers or swim in the La Fortuna Waterfall, which you could already see yesterday during the zipline tour. Hungry for more action? Then you can raft down rapids up to class lV, float across the river while tubing, or rappel down waterfalls.
