Arenal Volcano Expedition

The Arenal Volcano Expedition is a half-day tour that starts with a scenic drive to the private park "El Silencio". Along the way, our guides will share interesting facts and stories about the history and culture of the region.

Once we arrive at the park, we will embark on a hike of about 1 mile over former lava fields to reach the volcano's base. On the way we can see how the vegetation slowly reclaims the once devastated area.

As we ascend, you will be awe-struck by the stunning panoramic views of the Green Lagoon, Arenal lake and, of course, the volcano. Once at the viewpoint, the closest point to the volcano permitted to access, our guides will share their in-depth knowledge about the geology of the area, including how the Arenal Volcano was formed and its eruptive history. We will take time for photos and for taking in the breathtaking scenery, before starting the descent. 

If we still have time we can walk a second trail of the park for a change of scenery. Here we pass through dense vegetation as we hike first through secondary then primary rainforest. With a little luck we can spot rainforest inhabitants like toucans, monkeys, lizards and other representatives. Our knowledgeable guides will point out the various flora and fauna that call the park home. Back at the parking lot our driver is waiting for us with a delicious snack.

You can combine this tour with a visit to hot springs for an extra charge (see tour options on the right when choosing a date). There are several hot springs to choose from where you can relax and soak in the warm, healing waters of the volcano during a three-hour stay and also enjoy a dinner. The transfer back to your hotel is included.

• - Good physical condition is required for this tour
• - Due to the uneven terrain, this tour is not suitable for guests with walking disabilities or other motor impairments.
• - The tour is bilingual in English and Spanish
• - Transportation from most hotels is included in the price. If your hotel is far from downtown La Fortuna or the road to the Arenal Volcano, additional pick-up costs may apply. Please inquire at the time of booking.
• - The departure times are approximate and we will send you the exact pickup time.

Policies:

• - Any cancellation or modification of the reservation made less than 24 hours before departure will incur a penalty of 100%.
• - The customer shall be at the agreed time and place and we will wait a maximum of 5 minutes. In case of no show, the reservation will be charged to 100%.
