Nocturnal Experience Night walk

La Fortuna is a renowned destination in Costa Rica for travelers looking for adventure and unique experiences. At Costa Rica Insider, we offer a unique nocturnal experience that allows you to explore the hidden treasures of the night and meet a traditional Costa Rican family.

Our nocturnal experience starts at sunset with the pick-up from your hotel. We will drive to the small town of La Tigra (40 minutes from La Fortuna), where the Mendez family is already waiting for us. Otto & Maria have created a beautiful house and garden and they use part of the property for the natural regeneration of the forest attracting many animals. After taking a look at the lovingly furnished property, we begin our night hike equipped with flashlights.

Along an approximately 0.4 mile long path through wooded areas and past small streams and ponds, we keep an eye out for nocturnal birds, mammals, insects, amphibians and bats. Our knowledgeable guide will point out different nocturnal creatures and plants and explain their unique characteristics. You will be amazed by the sounds and sights of the nocturnal world. Then we reach the frog sanctuary which got its name due to the large number of frogs that can be observed here. They include the bullfrog, the largest of its kind, the beautiful red-eyed tree frog and the spectacular small glass frog.

After the tour, a delicious traditional dinner from the wood-burning oven and the view of the lights of the San Carlos plain at night await you. After refreshments, our comfortable minibus will take us back to La Fortuna.

Our nocturnal walk is designed to be safe, educational, and fun for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.
In addition, we are committed to preserving the environment and the creatures that live within it. We adhere to strict guidelines and protocols to ensure that we do not disturb the natural balance of the forest.

• - Price is per person
• - 13% sales tax will be added upon booking
• - Minimum number of participants: 2 adults
• - Child rate ($42) is for children 5-11 years old, children 0-4 years old are allowed free of charge, child seats are available free of charge (subject to availability).
• - Children must be accompanied by an adult.
• - Vegetarian option available for dinner, please specify when making reservations.
• - The tour is bilingual in English and Spanish
• - Transportation from most hotels is included in the price. If your hotel is far from downtown La Fortuna or the road to the Arenal Volcano, additional pick-up costs may apply. Please inquire at the time of booking.
• - The departure times are approximate and we will send you the exact pickup time.

Policies:

• - Cancellations or changes to the booking are possible until 24 hours before departure. After that, the full booking price will be charged in any case.
• - If a participant does not appear at the agreed time at the agreed place, we can wait a maximum of 5 minutes. In case of non-appearance, the full booking price will be charged.
