Turtle Nesting Tour

Experience the wonder of sea turtle nesting in Costa Rica. From June to December, you can set off on our turtle tour from Sámara or Puerto Carrillo. You will be picked up at the hotel in the evening and will travel in a small group accompanied by an experienced guide to one of the main nesting sites (probably Playa Camaronal or Playa Corazolito). The guide knows about the current activities and will choose the best spot.

You will then set off together in search of the turtles. It is important that you wear dark clothing so as not to irritate the animals. A total of four of the world's seven species of sea turtles come to these beaches to lay their eggs, including the leatherback turtle (the largest of them all), the olive ridley turtle (the most frequently sighted), the hawksbill turtle and the green sea turtle.

Of course, sightings cannot be guaranteed, but the chances are very high between June and December, especially in September and October. The guide will tell you all about the life cycle of these fascinating animals and also about the efforts to protect their species. If you find a turtle, your guide will explain to you exactly how best to approach the animal so as not to disturb it. And then you can simply enjoy this unique and unforgettable experience!

Please note: If by chance an “arribada”, a mass arrival of turtles, on the beach of Ostional is taking place, this tour would take you there, because this spectacle is not to be missed. The arribadas take place once a month (usually just before the new moon) and give you the opportunity to see thousands of turtles at once. As Ostional is a little further away, there would be a surcharge of USD 15 per person in this case.

Important: There is a minimum of 4 participants for this tour. If you are traveling alone or with fewer people, we have to check availability first on the desired date. Please contact us by e-mail or chat and let us know the desired tour date and the number of people. We will then let you know immediately whether the tour is possible on the desired date or no.

Notes:

• - 13% sales tax will be added upon booking
• - Minimum number of participants: 4 adults (less on request)
• - Children must be accompanied by an adult.
• - Child rate ($42) is for children 5-12 years old
• - The tour is bilingual in English and Spanish
• - Pick-up is available in the near area of Samara & Carrillo. Nosara extra $30 per person.
• - The departure times are approximate and we will send you the exact pickup time.
• - If the tour has to be canceled due to bad weather, another day can be arranged or a full refund of the tour price can be made.
• - Please be aware that the turtle nesting is seasonal (june-december). As this is a wildlife tour, sightings of turtles can never be guaranteed.

Policies:

• - Cancellations or changes to the booking are possible until 72 hours before departure. After that, the full booking price will be charged in any case.
• - If a participant does not appear at the agreed time at the agreed place, we can wait a maximum of 5 minutes. In case of non-appearance, the full booking price will be charged.
