The Marino Ballena Marine National Park in Uvita is home to one of Costa Rica's most biologically diverse marine habitats and is one of the best places in the world for whale watching. The best time for whale watching is from mid-July to October, when humpback whales from the southern hemisphere come to the area to mate and give birth to their young. However, humpback whales can also be spotted from the end of December to the end of February, when they migrate from the northern hemisphere to the warm waters of Costa Rica.
And even if it is not whale season, this tour is still recommended. The impressive coastal landscape of the Marino Ballena National Park with its tropical beaches, interesting rock formations and the famous “whale tail” - a natural sandbank that becomes visible at low tide - provides a beautiful backdrop.
Other marine life such as dolphins and turtles can often be spotted during the boat trip. There is also a swimming or snorkeling stop (depending on the weather conditions). A small snack before and during the tour is included.
Important: This tour starts at the agency in Uvita (we will let you know the exact location). If you are staying far away from the center of Uvita and do not have a car, transportation to the agency can be booked for an extra charge.
