This transfer is truly special: it pairs a relaxed ride in a comfortable minibus with a speedboat crossing to the stunning Bocas del Toro archipelago in Panama. And to make sure everything goes smoothly, you'll have support crossing the border from Costa Rica into Panama along the way.
Your journey starts with pickup at your hotel in La Fortuna, near Arenal Volcano, from where you'll head to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on Costa Rica's southern Caribbean coast (about 6 hours on the road, including a short break). Once there, you'll stop at Hotel Banana Azul for lunch (included) — the perfect chance to refuel and stretch your legs before continuing on.
From Puerto Viejo, it's about an hour to the Sixaola border crossing, where a guide will be on hand to help you cross smoothly into Panama. To make sure everything goes as planned, please take a look at our notes below.
With the paperwork behind you, another shuttle carries you from the border to Almirante on the Panamanian side (around 1 hour). There, you'll board a speedboat for the roughly 30-minute crossing to Isla Colón, the main island of the Bocas del Toro archipelago.
You'll arrive at Valencia Dock, just steps from Hotel Bocas Town. From here, hop in a taxi or simply walk to your hotel — and if your accommodation sits on another island, water taxis are on hand to get you there in comfort.
Please note: if your hotel in La Fortuna lies well outside the city center, an additional surcharge may apply. If your hotel isn't listed among the available accommodations, please get in touch with us — or simply note the hotel name in the comment field when booking.
