Sitting on a big tire, you will glide down the river in a relaxed way and sometimes at higher speeds but always passing exciting and fascinating landscapes, old forests and mighty rock formations. Tubing is especially fun as you have little control over your route and simply surrender completely to the currents of the river.
The experience can be similar to bumper cars because again and again your tire will bump against rocks, change direction. Sometimes it will go forward, sometimes sideways, sometimes backwards or spinning down the rapids. Of course, no one stays dry, but who wants that?
Tubing tours are offered in Costa Rica on several rivers. Especially popular are the rivers Guanacastes, like the Rio Negro or also the Rio Perdido. Tubing is special fun for families and for small groups. The water in Costa Rica is not particularly cold so try out this fun experience for yourself!
Depending on the provider, several tours per day are possible. From Hacienda Guachipelín near the Rincón de la Vieja volcano, tours depart at 8:30am, 10:30am and 1:30pm.
The tour on the Rio Negro is about 3 miles and lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours in total.
Normal physical fitness is required. Hacienda Guachipelin offers the possibility to get to the starting point of the tour by horse or by vehicle with different starting times. You should know how to swim.
Tubing is highly dependent on weather and water levels and will accordingly not take place if conditions do not allow it. Always follow the instructions of your guides.
The minimum age for tubing is 8 years.
Tours start at $55 for adults and $35 for children.
